Partner David’s practice involves developing Intellectual Property strategies for high technology companies and academic institutions. Clients look to him for advice concerning a range of Patent, Copyright, Trademark, due diligence, and Internet related issues. David studied Electrical Engineering and Law concurrently at The University of Melbourne, graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) degree and a Bachelor of Laws (Honors) degree. After moving to California in 2000, he passed the New York, Patent and California Bar Exams to become admitted as a Registered Patent Attorney.  David cut his teeth in the U.S. working on large multi-jurisdictional litigations, but was attracted to the unique challenges presented by rapidly growing technology companies. The insights David gained through his early litigation experience have proved beneficial to his clients as, in recent years, several patents he has prosecuted have been tested via litigation. In each instance, the litigation has yielded a favorable outcome on behalf of his client. Due to his deep technical knowledge in the fields of digital communication, digital design, digital signal processing, information theory, and software engineering, David has established himself as one of the most highly sought after attorneys in the high technology sector. He currently advises numerous high technology companies concerning their IP strategies, including CalAmp, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAMP), DivX, Inc. (NASDAQ: DIVX), Highedge, Inc. (Brickfish.com), Javaground USA, Inc., Mobius Semiconductor, Inc., Mojix, Inc., Sendio, Inc., and Verimatrix, Inc. David also prosecutes patents on behalf of a number of leading academic institutions including Caltech, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and UCLA and has managed to combine his passion for the outdoors with representation of a number of Southern California’s action sports companies including Volcom, Inc. (NASDAQ: VLCM). David served as an advisor to both DivX, Inc. (NASDAQ: DIVX), and Volcom, Inc.
